Nick Yaxley

Managing Director

As Managing Director of BondAdviser, Nick is responsible for the management of the whole organisation and its operations. He is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the Company across its Investment Research, Investment Management and Capital Markets Technology divisions.

As a co-founder of the Company, Nick draws on more than 15 years of experience in Capital Markets with broad experience across Origination, Portfolio Management, Execution and Risk. Prior to establishing BondAdviser, he held senior roles in Credit Research with firms including Morningstar and JP Morgan Asset Management.

Nick has a Bachelor of Business (Economics & Finance) from RMIT University and is RG146 Compliant.

Investment Management

Our Portfolio Management team, led by John Likos, enables clients to derive maximum value from their investments. Our portfolio construction and asset allocation framework prioritises downside protection during times of market volatility. We provide a platform to develop bespoke fixed income investment strategies designed to meet each client’s long-term objectives.

John Likos, CFA

Director, Investment Management

As Director of Investment Management, John is responsible for the development of BondAdviser’s Asset Management business where he is able to leverage his many years of experience in fixed income and credit portfolio management and analytics.

John is focused on delivering optimal solutions and returns for clients and understands the importance of fixed income within the overall asset allocation process. Furthermore, John has been recognised for his ongoing commitment to educating clients about the varying risks and returns across the different layers of the capital structure.

John has over 20 years of experience in financial markets across Australia and the United Kingdom. He started his career in the graduate program of PricewaterhouseCoopers before moving to London to work in various fixed income roles across Mondrian Investment Partners, Abbey National and Deutsche Bank. Upon returning to Australia, John worked within the fixed income team of National Australia Bank.

Most recently, John was a Director of Equity and Credit Research at Morningstar Australasia, focusing on listed debt products and a range of equities as well as the management of several analysts covering financials and REITs.

John has a Bachelor of Economics from Flinders University, a Bachelor of Laws from Adelaide University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment at FINSIA and is a CFA Charterholder. John is RG146 compliant.

Research Process

Simon Fletcher, CFA

Director, Investment Research

Simon leads BondAdviser’s Investment Research team and is responsible for delivering the valuation methodology and overseeing the quality, integrity and accuracy of all data and research produced for clients.

Simon is passionate about delivering high-quality, independent research that clients can rely on to make investment decisions. He believes that investors could add more bonds and fixed income securities to their portfolio when provided with institutional-quality information, trading and portfolio recommendations and comprehensive support.

Simon has over 15 years of experience in global markets both onshore and offshore. He started his career with Deloitte in London and gained sound experience across a broad spectrum of financial companies. Roles with Barclays Capital, Bear Stearns and JP Morgan followed where Simon specialised in credit and structured credit analysis.

Most recently, he was a well-respected Senior Credit Analyst at National Australia Bank focusing on REITs, financials and global banks in particular.

Simon has a Masters of Arts (Medicine / Natural Sciences) from Cambridge University, is a CFA Charterholder and a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment. Simon is RG146 compliant.

Charlie Callan

Research Analyst

Charlie joined BondAdviser in 2018 as an Analyst and is an integral part of the Investment Research team where he conducts fundamental analysis and develops financial models on debt securities. This research on corporates and financial institutions, who are active issuers in debt capital markets, is a key part of the overall BondAdviser research offering. He also covers research on fixed income funds, including Listed Investment Trusts (LITs), where Charlie focuses on counterparty risk and valuation.

Charlie is valued by our Advisory clients for his diligent and proactive coverage of their portfolios. He believes over the longer term that strategic asset allocation is the primary driver of returns and firmly believes in the role that fixed income plays in a balanced portfolio.

Charlie graduated from The University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Accounting), where, as a resident of Queen’s College he was Treasurer of the Inter-Collegiate Sports Council. Charlie previously held Summer Analyst roles at Credit Suisse and Fordham Group and is a Chartered Financial Analyst Level 2 Candidate.

Lachlan Hall

Research Analyst

Lachlan began as an intern at BondAdviser in June 2017, before transitioning to a Research Analyst role in 2018. Lachlan supports the Investment Research team in its coverage of Australian credit markets, including corporate loans and domestic bond research.

Lachlan completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting/Finance) from the University of Melbourne and is a Chartered Financial Analyst Level 2 Candidate.

Finlay Montgomery

Research Analyst

Finlay joined the Investment Research Team at BondAdviser in 2018. He provides coverage on listed and wholesale debt and hybrid instruments, new issuances, corporate loans and Listed Investment Trusts (LITs).

Finlay also supports the Investment Management function of the business by assisting with the strategic and tactical allocation of securities within BondAdviser’s model portfolios to ensure targeted risk and return objectives are achieved. He is a strong believer in the importance of the Fixed Income market in investors’ portfolios and is excited to be in a prime position to watch the Australian market continue to grow.

Finlay graduated from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Business (Economics and Finance) and has previously held Analyst roles at Macquarie Group and Prevoyant Capital in Scottsdale, Arizona. He is currently completing his Masters of Finance at RMIT.

Independent Board Member

BondAdviser believes in the essential role of a non-executive chairman due to their independence and objectivity. They act in the best interests of the company and its clients bringing an independent and fresh perspective to decision-making while demonstrating relevant competency, experience and ethical behaviours.

Chris Healy

Chairman

As Chairman of BondAdviser, Chris is responsible for the leadership of the Board including:

• Facilitating correct and relevant information flow to the Board;
• Ensuring effective functioning of the Board including managing the conduct, frequency and focus of board meetings;
• Composition and structure of the board and communication of its views, in conjunction with the CEO, to the organisation’s security holders, broader stakeholders and to the public;
• Supporting the Managing Director.

Chris is a corporate lawyer with a wide range of investment experience and a key contributor to complex corporate transactions.  For many years he was Legal Director and Company Secretary of Coats Viyella plc, a large international manufacturing company listed on the London Stock Exchange, and Legal Director and Company Secretary of Guinness Peat Group plc, an international investment company with a triple stock exchange listing in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

Chris was admitted as a solicitor in England in 1987 and amongst many directorships he has held he was Chairman of Staveley Pensions Trustees Limited and a Director of Coats Pensions Trustees Limited, both UK pensions funds which had significant investments in equities and bonds.

The advisory board is a select group of individuals who provide strategic advice and support to the directors of the business.

Chris Jackson

Managing Director, Accurate Financial

Chris founded Accurate in 1989 and remains Managing Director of the Company that now has in excess of 3000 active clients in over 10 Countries. Whilst the business focus remains on advising individual clients Chris is also a leading advisor in the SMSF space.

Chris also has extensive experience in Finance and Banking and sits on a number of Private Company Boards and until recently was the long term Chairman of Private Banking Service, a franchise of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank. Chris is also the current Deputy Chair of the State Sport Centre Trust for the State of Victoria.

Colin Campbell

Managing Director, Carnbrea & Co Ltd

Colin joined Carnbrea & Co in 2014 after spending 8 years as a Senior Wealth Adviser at Wilson HTM and 15 years at the NAB as a Senior General Manager.

At NAB he managed significant business lines covering both institutional and retail products in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Prior to the NAB he worked in financial markets as a trader and desk manager.

He is Chair of the Carnbrea Investment and Asset Allocation Committees and is also a Responsible Manager on Carnbrea’s Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL).

Colin holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Master of Business Administration, Post Grad Diploma – Securities Institute of Australia.

He is a former Board Director and Fellow of the Finance and Treasury Association and Senior Fellow of FINSIA. He is ADA level 2 accredited.

Nick Owen

Independent

Nick has over 25 years financial services experience gained primarily in the interest rates market with UBS, where he successfully led the selling, trading and product development of CPI related products in both Australia and the UK.

In 2008, Nick saw an opportunity to build transactional functionality into Praemium Limited’s market leading VWrap reporting technology (a company in which he was an early investor) to complement the existing portfolio reporting functionality, and create a full investment administration platform service. Nick as founder of Powerwrap limited was managing director for 8 years.

Nick is currently acting as a mentor, and consultant to startup companies.
