What is the purpose of this Financial Services Guide?

This Financial Services Guide (FSG) provides you with information about us, to help you decide whether to use the services we offer.

It explains:

  • the services offered by us;
  • how instructions may be provided to us;
  • how we are remunerated; and
  • the details of our internal and external complaints handling procedures and how you can access them.

Who is BondAdviser?

BondAdviser is an Australian financial services and technology company. Established in 2014 it has become a leading provider of investment research, asset management, data analytics and platforms with a specialised focus on in public and private debt capital markets. BondAdviser is proud to be an employee-controlled business delivering investment solutions for the Wealth and Asset Management industry.

What services can BondAdviser provide?

BondAdviser’s AFSL authorises it to provide general financial advice, to both retail and wholesale clients, for the following classes of financial products:

  • basic and non-basic deposit and payment products;
  • derivatives;
  • debentures, stocks or bonds issued or proposed to be issued by a government;
  • foreign exchange contracts;
  • interests in managed investment schemes, excluding investor directed portfolio services; and
  • securities.
  • Deal in a financial product to wholesales clients by: issuing, applying for, acquiring, varying or disposing of a financial product in respect of derivatives;
  • applying for, acquiring, varying or disposing of a financial product on behalf of another person in respect of the following classes of products:
    • deposit and payment products limited to basic deposit products;
    • derivatives;
    • foreign exchange contracts;
    • debentures, stocks or bonds issued or proposed to be issued by a government;
    • interests in managed investment schemes excluding IDPS; and
    • securities.

How do I give information to BondAdviser?

You can give us information by phone, post, or email. In some cases, you will need to complete and return certain documents, such as a subscription agreement and a client identification form.

How does BondAdviser get paid?

Our clients are product issuers that pay us to prepare research reports, or users that pay for subscriptions to access content delivered through our proprietary research as a service platform.  We receive income from these contracted services only.  Research fees are not linked to the research outcome for a particular financial product. We are not involved in execution services.  There are two levels of subscription being standard and professional package with different features and content.  Subscription fees are privately agreed with each client and depend on the range of publications/services accessed, user numbers and other factors.

BondAdviser’s related body corporate, BA Asset Management Pty Ltd deals with wholesale clients only. It receives a management fee from these clients. The fee is calculated as a percentage of assets under management. If you invest in our managed funds, the management fee is calculated daily in the unit price of the fund and paid monthly.

BondAdviser does not pay a fee to any person who refers you to use our services.  Research, subscription and licencing fees are our primary form of income and are generally the only remuneration received. BondAdviser, however, reserve the right to accept solicited research fees where it is satisfied that the research fee is not going to result in an associations or relationships that could reasonably influence our research.

BondAdviser’s employees are employed by BondAdviser and its related body corporate, BA Asset Management. All employees are paid a salary and may receive a discretionary bonus which is not guaranteed.

What are BondAdviser’s indemnity insurance arrangements?

We have a professional indemnity insurance policy in place that complies with section 912B of the Corporations Act and ASIC Regulatory Guide 126.

Conflicts of interest

Subject to the matters below, Bond Adviser acts for clients that are product issuers and subscribers to its web application, when providing financial services. Bond Adviser has a conflicts of interest policy which seeks to:

  • Identify conflicts of interests
  • Control and avoid conflicts of interest
  • Disclose conflicts of interest to clients

BondAdviser’s related body corporate, BA Asset Management (Investment Manager), which provides investment management services to wholesale clients.

BondAdviser does not publish research on the Investment Manager’s investment products. The Investment Manager is not permitted to acquire products with a sell rating issued by BondAdviser, nor hold such products for a period of 3 months of a sell rating being initiated.

BondAdviser staff are generally not permitted to hold products that they rate, subject to any approvals under BondAdviser’s Securities Dealing Policy.

BondAdviser’s conflicts management arrangements are governed by a comprehensive conflicts of interest policy. The conflicts of interest policy was prepared with regard to ASIC RG 79 and RG 181.

How can I make a complaint?

If you have a complaint about the services provided to you, the following steps should be taken:

Contact us and tell us about your complaint. If your complaint is not satisfactorily resolved within seven days, please call our Complaints Manager on 03 9670 8615 or you can put your complaint in writing and forward it to:

The Complaints Manager will endeavour to investigate and resolve your complaint, and communicate his decision to you, within 30 days. If you still do not receive a satisfactory outcome, you may lodge a complaint with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA)  by contacting them online, over the phone or by email.
